Meet the Team

Andrew Anctil
Head Coach

Retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after almost 15 years his style of coaching is direct, simple, and focused on a mastery of the basics. He has led many athletes to advanced and elite performances injury free. Andrew started powerlifting in 2012. His best meet performances are a 655lbs Squat, a 352lbs Bench press and a 650lbs deadlift. He has held several squat records in the Canadian 165lbs weight class Winning several provincial titles and best lifters placings in most his meets he was awarded Canadian Army Male athlete of the year in 2018. He is also Quebec chair for the WRPF Canada. He is co-owner of South Shore Iron Gym which he founded in 2019. Having grown his athlete roster, he hopes to elevate a team of lifters as professional athletes and grow the sport by hosting quality events and providing sponsorships to those in need.

Valerie Leone
Team Manager

Valerie began her powerlifting journey in 2017. She immediately demonstrated the work ethic of a dedicated athlete. Competition after competition, she achieved incredible performances, with her squat as her main strength. She currently holds the squat record in the 114-pound weight class and ranks among the top two in the 123-pound class. Her current competition lifts are 440 lb in Squat, 232 lb in Bench, and 452 lb in Deadlift. She is ranked No. 3 of all time among Canadian women. Valérie is an accomplished woman in all aspects of her life; she holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's in criminology, and was a Ph.D. student in criminology for two years before redirecting her career. She is a captain in the Canadian Armed Forces, serving as a personnel selection officer. She is also a national judge with the WRPF. She co-founded South Shore Iron in 2019. Her current aspirations are to continue pushing the limits of her athletic performance while developing her business and its brand image.

Rami Kesserwan
Coach

Rami has been involved in powerlifting since 2019, dedicating himself to improving strength, muscle mass, and technique through a variety of training methods. Over the years, he has gained experience in different powerlifting federations, refining his knowledge of the sport’s culture, rules, and competition standards. Alongside his passion for powerlifting, Rami studies psychology, focusing on motivation, confidence, and anxiety. He applies these insights to help athletes improve their technique, overcome mental barriers, and perform at their best under pressure. Rami approaches coaching with a people-centered mindset, valuing the opportunity to connect with other lifters, share experiences, and learn from the powerlifting community. His approach promotes an environment of growth and continuous learning.
